On 24th May 2024, the CfBT Welfare Office invited the Brunei Neuroscience, Stroke and Rehabilitation Centre (BNSRC) team from the Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre to conduct a talk on causes and risk factors of stroke emphasising the importance of swift action when symptoms arise.
Several CfBT staff and teachers were present. The event started with a warm welcome from Nurizatil Said, the emcee, and progressed with a stroke fun quiz. The lucky winner, Nazri from the HR department, received exclusive PJSC (Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre) Merchandise.
Stroke has been an ongoing campaign, and the highlight of the talk was B.E.F.A.S.T, an abbreviation introduced by Dr. Chee Shin:
B: Sudden loss of Balance
E: Loss of vision/blurry in one or both Eyes
F: Face drooping on one side
A: Weakness in Arms or legs
S: Difficulty Speaking
T: Time to get help
It is also crucial to call 991 immediately in case of a stroke emergency. Educating ourselves with the signs can be the first step towards saving lives.
